ไม้ยืนต้นขนาดกลาง สูงถึง ๑๘ ม. ใบประกอบแบบขนนกเรียงสลับ มีใบย่อย ๖ – ๑๒ คู่ ดอกออกเป็นช่อที่ปลายยอดสีเหลือง ผลเป็นฝักแบนเรียว มีเมล็ดสีดำ ออกดอกช่วงเดือนกันยายน – พฤศจิกายน ขยายพันธุ์โดยการเพาะเมล็ด
Senna siamea is a medium-sized tree, up to 18 m tall. Leaves are pinnately compound, alternate, 6 – 12 pairs of leaflets. Inflorescences are in terminal panicles with many yellow flowers. Fruits are flat and slender pods with many black seeds. Flowering in September – November. This plant can be propagated by seed.

Young leaves and flower buds are cooked in many local dishes such as “kaeng khi lek” or eaten with chilli sauces after fast-boiled. During preparation, the cooking liquid is replaced 3 times to reduce its bitter taste.
